It is understood that from April 26 to May 2, 2025, the weekly composite operating rate of lead-acid battery enterprises in the five provinces monitored by SMM was 55.06%, representing a significant decrease of 18.5 percentage points WoW.
This week coincided with the Labour Day holiday. Except for a few enterprises that maintained normal production, most lead-acid battery enterprises had plans to take a holiday, with the duration ranging from 1-3 days to 4-7 days, and a few even intended to take a half-month break. During this week, the Labour Day holiday was the main factor contributing to the sharp decline in the operating rate of lead-acid battery enterprises. Some enterprises even started their holidays early on April 29-30, dragging down the operating rate. The decision of lead-acid battery enterprises to take a collective holiday was mainly due to the current traditional off-season in the lead-acid battery market for e-bikes, automobiles, etc. Both the primary supporting and secondary replacement market demands were underperforming. Additionally, affected by US tariffs, export battery orders were hindered, and producers intended to reduce the inventory pressure of finished products by taking a holiday.
